Elite dangerous Gets a Terry Pratchett Tribute From Frontier Developments
A new update (1.2.05) was recently released to Elite Dangerous, if you were wondering why the servers were down, that is the reason.
However, that is not what this story is about. This is about a really good gesture made by Frontier Developments, the makers of the space based combat, adventure and trading simulation title in said update.
We were all saddened by the death of Terry Pratchett last week who gave in to Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 66. So the developer decided to pay a tribute to Pratchett by introducing a new starport to the game called Pratchett’s Disc.
The executive producer for Elite Dangerous, Michael Brookes explained the sentiment behind the gesture and praised Pratchett’s skills as a writer in a statement given to Eurogamer:
At Frontier we have a great many Pratchett fans on staff and we were all saddened to learn of his passing. The sentiment was reflected by our community so we felt it would be right to remember him in Elite: Dangerous.
or me personally, Terry Pratchett was one of very few authors whose books I could buy without needing to read a review or even ask what the story was about. His talent for social commentary, humour, unforgettable characters and vivid worlds not only provided joy as a reader, but inspiration as a writer.
Don’t you think that is a nice tribute to the man?
Elite Dangerous was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows on December 16, 2014. It is still awaiting a release on Mac OS X in this year’s Spring and later on Xbox One.
Would you play the game when it releases to Xbox One?
