Overkill’s The Walking Dead Will Feature “Payday-Esque” Online Mode
At a SXSW panel today, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman promised that announcements about the upcoming Walking Dead game will be made “very soon.”
The game is being developed by Overkill Software, the studio behind Payday: The Heist, who will be bringing a bit of Payday-flavor in the game. Kirkman mentioned that the upcoming Walking Dead game will feature a cooperative online mode that will be “Payday-esque,” but in a bigger world.
“I can say that it will be Payday-esque because [Starbreeze and Overkill] are currently doing Payday,” he said. “But I’m told it will be in a bigger world than Payday currently encompasses. They are going to be learning a lot of stuff from Payday that they will be incorporating into The Walking Dead game.”
He furthermore said that a lot of focus is being placed on the interactive online experience, and fans of the series will get to experience the same thrills while playing the game with their friends.
Publisher Starbreeze announced The Walking Dead game in August last year, but since then there has been little news about its progress. Taking into account what Kirkman said about how “most licensed games have lackluster elements” because they have to hit specific dates, it’s safe to say that Overkill will be taking its time with this game.
