Destiny Wins Best Game Award at BAFTA London
Bungie’s first shooter after moving on from Halo, Destiny, has won the best game award at the BAFTA Awards.
British Academy Games Awards was held recently and was hosted by British Academy of Film and Television Arts. At the event, best games of the past 12 months were awarded in different categories.
What’s strange is that Destiny didn’t win a single award in any other category, but was still the best game. I’m not saying Destiny is a bad game, but it’s not what it could have been. The gameplay is repetitive, shallow and there’s hardly any plot.
If you rule out DLCs, what exactly Destiny does which other shooters can’t do better? There were plenty of games that deserved the award, how about Dragon Age: Inquisition? Or Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor? The decision to award Destiny is a bit controversial I would say.
Anyways, maybe the jury saw something in Destiny which I failed to see. Bungie’s president Harold Ryan had the following to say while accepting the award:
“It’s always a labour of love that we do because of the passion of the fans. They really are the ones who drive you to put the energy and time into putting the game together.”
Destiny was released last year on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Do you think Destiny deserved this award? Let us know of your opinion in the comments below.
