Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Make an Appearance at E3 2015, The Witcher 3 is Still the Focus
Cyberpunk 2077 was announced back in October of 2012 by CD Projekt RED as a new sandbox title set in Night City, a location from the original Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop pen-and-paper RPG on which the new game is based.
Since then, there has been little word about the game’s development and we’ve mostly been engrossed in the studio’s upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
It makes you wonder whether the announcement was premature. The studio’s managing director Adam Badowski has stated that the announcement was not too early, but they did need more “help” to finish The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
“We wanted to present a certain vision of ourselves. Such a thing is very important for a company like ours – a company that is both the developer and the publisher,” said Badowski in an interview with Game Pressure.
“The moment we announced Cyberpunk, we were certainly working on it. Later on, it turned out that we needed help in completing Witcher 3 – lately we have focused a larger part of the team on finishing the game, and after the release we will get back to Cyberpunk. After all, we didn’t announce a release date of the latter, so no one can complain.”
From his statement, the development of Cyberpunk 2077 has been pretty much at a standstill for at least the past year. When asked whether we would get to see the game at E3 2015, he said “This year belongs to The Witcher 3.”
We’ll probably see the game release in fall of 2017 if we’re very lucky.
