Jon Stewart to Quit The Daily Show by Year End

Millions of regular TV viewers are not going to be happy about this one, Jon Stewart who has been with The Daily Show since 1999 is leaving.

While many of you would have expected this already – he did reveal the possibility some time back – but it will surely comes as a big change to the audience that has grown up watching this show.

So why is he leaving? Well, Jon Stewart himself has hinted about that in a statement saying that “this show doesn’t deserve an even slightly restless host, and neither do you.”

Comedy Central have responded on the news with an official statement (rather a thank you note) that was shared by their Twitter profile:

For the better part of the last two decades, I have had the incredible honor and privilege of working with Jon Stewart. His comedic brilliance is second to none. Jon has been at the heart of Comedy Central, championing and nurturing the best talent in the industry, in front of and behind the camera. Through his unique voice and vision, The Daily Show has become a cultural touchstone for millions of fans and an unparalleled platform for political comedy that will endure for years to come.

The Daily Show is the second longest running show of the channel and being with it for such a long time surely has an emotional element – for the fans, show producers as well as Jon Stewart.

As far as the exact date of his departure is concerned, his contract expires at the end of this month so that is one possibility, however he has also revealed that he might leave as early as July.
