Asteroids: Outpost Reboots the 30 Year Old Atari Franchise

By   /   Feb 11, 2015

The classic Asteroids franchise is being revived by Atari and the reboot will be exclusive to PC. According to Atari, the reboot will be a survival sandbox experience, in which players will be asked to mine for different resources and build their base. Atari has dubbed the game as Asteroids: Outpost.

As the name suggests, the game will take place on an Asteroid. Players will create highly customizable bases and they will have to defend it against every threat. Battle for survival will be unforgiving.

That’s because you’re not fighting for survival against an AI, Asteroid is an online multiplayer game so you will be going up against other real players.

Speaking about the game, Atari CEO Frederic Chesnais said:

Asteroids is one of the most iconic titles in Atari’s portfolio of more than 200 games and franchises, and we’re looking forward to ushering the game into today’s digital gaming era. We’re paying homage to the original Asteroids by incorporating classic features such as asteroid blasting capabilities, while introducing a completely new premise and gameplay.

Atari has also launched an official website for Asteroids: Outpost. No other details are available at the site for now. Originally, the game was released over 30 years ago and was a big hit of its time.

For those who have already played the game, this is a great opportunity to experience a classic title in a new avatar. Atari is yet to reveal a release date but we’ll keep you updated on any future developments.
