Evolve Map Effects Guide For Hunters and Monsters

By   /   Feb 10, 2015

During Evacuation, as the Monsters try and destroy Shear Colonists, certain ‘Map Effects’ are added in each round. If the Monsters win the first round, a ‘Map Effect’ which works well for them is added in the upcoming round and the other way around.

Evolve Map Effects

If the Monsters win the fourth round, Armored Minions are summoned and if the Hunters win it, Armored Turrets are spawned on the map. This guide is essentially an overview of all the ‘Map Effects’ which are available in EVOLVE:

Benefits Hunters

Armored Turrets
Appears on: Colonial Water & Power, King’s Fort, New Calico, Salveron Industries

Armored Turrets only appear in the Defend Mode IF the Hunters won the previous round. They are very strongly armored against the Monster and its minions, making it extremely tough to destroy.

Attack Drones
Appears on: The Dam, Wraith Trap

Attack Drones search the totality of the map and damage the Monster. These are not tough to destroy, but can prove to be a frustration.

Birds
Appears on: Distillery, MedLab, Refueling Tower, Weather Control

Birds fly across the map and reveal the Monster’s location for the Hunters. It is always a good idea to have as many of them in the air as possible.

Cargo Ship
Appears on: Aviary, Fusion Plant, Rendering Plant, Weather Control, Wraith Trap

Similar to Birds, Cargo Ship looms over the entire map and reveals the Monster’s location for the Hunters. Always keep an eye out on your mini-map in case you receive a Cargo Ship.

Clear Skies
Appears on: Aviary, Fusion Plant, MedLab, Refueling Plant

This allows the Hunter to forget all about the predators as these creatures go into hiding. Due to this, the Hunters do not have to deal with tough wildlife and locate the Monster more easily.

Colonists
Appears on: Barracks, Refueling Tower, The Dam, Wraith Trap

With this ‘Map Effect’, two Colonists join your team and hunt down the Monster. These guys are nearly not as tough as the Hunters, but they sure deal quite decent damage IF left unchecked.

Ebonstar Ally
Appears on: Orbital Drill, Rendering Plant, The Dam

Similar to Colonists, Ebonstar Allies are also soldiers who fight alongside the Hunters. However, unlike Colonists, these soldiers are way tougher and deal far more damage than Colonists.

One thing to note here is that they appear after the Hunters help defend the Barracks.

Fair Weather
Appears on: Armory, Barracks, Distillery, Orbital Drill, Rendering Plant, The Dam, Weather Control, Wraith Trap

This ‘Map Effect’ negates all harmful weather effects and provides beautiful natural lightning, simply put.

Forcefield
Appears on: Armory, Barracks, Rendering Plant, Wraith Trap

Forcefield is essentially a confined space (marked by large transparent blue walls) in which the Monster gets trapped. The Hunters can check the exact location of Forcefield by looking at their mini-map.

The Forcefield tightens gradually, allowing the Hunters to deal some additional damage to the Monster.

MedBays
Appears on: Aviary, Distillery, Weather Control

MedBays are distributed by the MedLab and allow the Hunters to heal and remove strikes. The Hunters can open up their in-game mini-map and check the location of every MedBay located on the map.

All they need to do is stand inside the MedBay and get healed.

Scent Masking
Appears on: Aviary, MedLab

This ‘Map Effect’ negates the Monster’s ability to smell and locate the Hunters. Personally, I believe this is one of the strongest ‘Map Effect’ at the Hunters’ disposal and allows them to attack the Monster more stealthily.

Sentry Guns
Appears on: Refueling Tower, Weather Control, Wraith Trap

Like the name suggests, Sentry Guns are deployable weapons that attack the Monster and its minions. Although these can be destroyed quite easily, these do not go down without pretty decent damage.

Space Laser
Appears on: Barracks, Rendering Plant

With this ‘Map Effect’, a bright-red laser targets the Monster from above and does insane amount of damage. These laser attacks are executed frequently and must be avoided while playing as the Monster.

Teleport Gates
Appears on: Armory, Fusion Plant, Refueling Tower, Rendering Plant, The Dam

With this ‘Map Effect’, a small amount of bright-blue Teleport Gates appears on the map.

Stepping inside one of these Teleport Gates sends the Hunters to a central location. The Hunters can use it to discover the Monster’s location more effectively. Players can see the location of each Teleport Gate on their mini-map.

Benefits Monster

Armored Minions
Appears on: Colonial Water & Power, King’s Fort, New Calico, Salveron Industries

Armored Minions are the opposite of Armored Turrets and only appear in the last round of Evacuation if the Monster won the fourth round. This ‘Map Effect’ grants additional armor to minions, making them tougher to defeat.

Canyon Striders
Appears on: Barracks, Orbital Drill, Refueling Tower, The Dam, Wraith Tap

Hungry? This ‘Map Effect’ adds some extra Canyon Striders on the map, allowing the Monster to feed more frequently and gain 2-bars energy per kill. Never go hungry again!

Carnivorous Plants
Appears on: Aviary, MedLab, Refueling Tower

The Hunters giving you a tough time? With this ‘Map Effect’, a number of carnivorous plants spawn on the map, making the Hunters’ movements more dangerous with each step. When playing as the Hunters, make sure to go past these plants.

Ebonstar Corpses
Appears on: Orbital Drill, Rendering Plant, The Dam

Similar to Canyon Striders, Ebonstar Corpses provide additional energy for the Monster. You will come across a number of corpses lying around the map which provide additional energy to the Monster.

EMP
Appears on: The Dam, Wraith Trap

This can be considered as the opposite of Space Laser. EMP negates the Hunters’ class ability for a little duration of time.

Prior to an EMP strike, a small yellow circle appears on the ground and if a Hunter is caught in it, he or she loses ability to use the Class Ability.

Falling Satellite
Appears on: Barracks, Rendering Plant

With this ‘Map Effect’, a satellite is destroyed above, sending parts on the map. If a Hunter is hit, he or she receives massive amount of damage. Therefore, it is advised that you be on your toes to dodge whenever you see a falling piece coming your way.

Hostile Wildlife
Appears on: Aviary, MedLab

With this ‘Map Effect’, the wildlife drink contaminated water and attack the Hunters with more aggression. These animals can deal serious damage IF left unchecked. Hence, always be on your toes and have your weapons ready for any unfortunate encounter.

Man-Eating Eels
Appears on: Armory, Barracks, Rendering Plant, Wraith Trap

Man-Eating Eels are summoned in the water – these creatures attack the Hunters and are friendly to the Monster. When this ‘Map Effect’ is in action, make sure to stay clear of the water.

However, while playing as the Monster, use their friendly nature towards you to your advantage.

Mutated Plants
Appears on: Aviary, Distillery, Weather Control

Mutated Plants not only attack the Hunters, but also grant health to the Monster. Due to these facts, it’s a good idea to take out these plants as soon as possible.

Phantoms
Appears on: Distillery, MedLab, Refueling Tower, Weather Control

Phantoms target the Hunters from atop and deal some serious damage. Whenever you see something gigantic looming over, take out your weapon and start shooting to avoid taking some serious damage.

Radioactive Clouds
Appears on: Refueling Tower, Weather Control, Wraith Trap

This ‘Map Effect’ adds toxic-greenish gas on the map which deals damage to the Hunters as they walk through it.

As for the Monster, this gas has no effect on it. Use this to your advantage while playing as the Monster, and avoid it as best as you can while playing as one of the Hunters.

Second Monster
Appears on: Aviary, Fusion Plant, Rendering Plant, Weather Control, Wraith Trap

This miniature monster sticks with the primary Monster and attacks the Hunters at sight. The miniature monster is extremely hard to defeat, but IF left unchecked, it can stir some serious trouble for your team.

Storms
Appears on: Armory, Barracks, Distillery, Orbital Drill, Rendering Plant, The Dam, Weather Control, Wraith Trap

This ‘Map Effect’ is a simple weather change. There are no adverse effects, but it does make it a tad harder to locate the Monster.

Teleport Rifts
Appears on: Armory, Fusion Plant, Refueling Tower, Rendering Plant, The Dam

This ‘Map Effect’ is similar to Teleport Gates and teleport the Monster to different locations across the map. Players controlling the Monster can check the location of all Teleport Rifts on their mini-map.

One small tip to use this to your advantage is to get away from the Hunters at the very start of the round.
