Riot Games has launched the very first Oceania Pro League (OPL) for LoL. OPL has kicked-off and will see eight teams facing each other over a 7 week-split.

Top five teams go further while bottom three are going to face relegation. Teams have an opportunity to win $64,000. That means each split has a prize pool of $32,000. On top of that, players will receive $100 match fee for each game they participate in.

Daniel Ringland, eSports manager stated: “We have some amazing talent in this region and they are only going to get better in a professional league.”

While Ben de Rider, eSports co-ordinator added:

“Our ultimate goal is to see an Oceanic team win at Worlds. We’re not on the same level as some of the larger regions yet, but you should never underestimate a bunch of Aussies and Kiwis.”

Moreover, winning team of Split 1 will take a trip to Turkey to represent Oceania during the International Wildcard Invitational.

If the team manages to win in Istanbul they will have a guaranteed place at the Mid-Season Invitational to face teams from North America, Korea and more.
