Major UK retailer Tesco has cut down the price of an 8GB Wii U to just £99.99, down from its usual £149.99 price.

This is the first time that the Nintendo console is available for less than £100 from a major retailer in the region. Last year saw to many retailers putting up new prices, all in the effort to clear their existing stock.

Since there has been no official word from Nintendo about this recent cut, it’s safe to assume that Tesco is following the same path and just wants to go through its current stock.

The more expensive 32GB Wii U model remains unaffected. Tesco is currently selling a Mario Kart 8 Premium Pack bundled with the model at £199.

According to Nintendo’s recently released financial report for the 2014 fiscal year, the Wii U has so far sold 9 million units. The company believes that it’s too soon to count the console out, which hints that the Wii U will receive additional exclusive titles this year. These will most probably be revealed at E3 in June.
