Resident Evil HD Remaster Launch Errors, Resolution, Freezes, Crashes and Fixes

By   /   Jan 22, 2015

Originally released in 1996, Resident Evil HD Remaster provides a captivating experience which is said to be the best RE franchise has ever offered. Running at 1080p with 5.1 surround sound with improved controls and mechanics, Biohazard HD is an experience not worth missing.

From a technical perspective, the PC version runs fine, but it does have its fair share of issues which keep on popping up frequently. This guide is designed to provide different workaround from most-commonly reported issues. If you come across something misleading or confusing, do make sure to let me know.

#1 The Game Fails to Launch
Sometimes, the game will fail to launch after a message saying, “Preparing to Launch.” This is a common issue which can be fixed in a number of ways:

Firstly, you can try opening Steam Library followed by right-clicking on Resident Evil and head to the following directory:

Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache

Once you’ve done so, the game should work fine. In case it doesn’t, I’d recommend reinstalling DirectX or updating it as it also fixes this issue.

#2 Stuck at the Capcom Logo
Ofttimes, the game launches fine, but won’t go past the Capcom logo. One possible workaround which seems to work is provided below:

C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Local\Capcom\Resident Evil – biohazard@HD Remaster

Go to the directory provided above and open ‘config.ini’ and change the settings I’ve listed below:

  • Full Screen = ON
  • Resolution = whatever your native is

Save the file and try running the game again. Also make sure not to mess up other settings, unless you know what you’re doing.

#3 How to Get 1440p Resolution
Those of you who wish to go beyond 1080p, there’s a way to make it work. First off, you need to open the file provided below in Notepad:

C:\Users\Your User Name Here\AppData\Local\Capcom\Resident Evil – Biohazard@HD REMASTER\config.ini

Once you’ve done so, edit the line provided below with your desired resolution:

  • Resolution = _____

Do note that you must type in resolution in the manner provided below:

  • 1080p = 1920×1080
  • 1440p = 2560×1440

Once you’ve done so, save and close the file following by restarting the game.

#4 Changing Refresh Rate to 120Hz
If, for some reason, your Refresh Rate is stuck to 60Hz and you’re unable to change it, this issue can be countered same as higher resolutions. First off, open the file provided below in Notepad:

C:\Users\Your User Name Here\AppData\Local\Capcom\Resident Evil – Biohazard@HD Remaster\config.ini

Once you’re there, you need to change the value of Refresh Rate to 120 which should fix the issue.

#5 Erorr09 Unsupported Function
This error commonly occurs when you try going full screen. In order to fix this issue, load up the game in Windowed Mode followed by changing the Windowed Resolution to a higher resolution (the one which is supported), save the game and exit it while staying in the Windowed Mode.

Once you’ve done so, run the game again and activate full screen and it should run just fine.

#6 Mouse Cursor Stays on Screen
Unless you’re playing using an external controller, the mouse cursor stays on top of the screen and won’t go away. This is one of the most commonly reported issues without any fix as of this instant. Hopefully, Capcom is working on fixing this as soon as possible.

#7 How to Go Past 60 FPS
Like most of the fixes, you need to open up the file provided below in Notepad:

C:\Users\Your User Name Here\AppData\Local\Capcom\Resident Evil – Biohazard@HD Remaster\config.ini

Once you’ve opened up this file, you need to change the following values:

  • Refresh Rate = 120.00Hz
  • Frame Rate = VARIABLE
  • VSYNC = OFF

Once you’ve done so, save the file and restart the game which should fix the locked FPS.

If you come across any other issue or you have a fix/workaround of your own, let us know in the comments below!
