Minecraft Now Holds 12 World Records, Including Best-selling Indie Game

There isn’t any doubt regarding the popularity of Minecraft. The game started from the bottom and has become a multi-billion dollar franchise. Not only that, but according to the Guinness World Records 2015: Gamer’s Edition, Minecraft now holds 12 world records.

Some of these records are a bit weird, but others are highly impressive. Let’s take a look at the records this game holds:

Best Selling Indie Game
Minecraft holds the record for best-selling indie game, having sold 16,176,201 copies – these sales include PC and Mac only.

Longest Marathon on Minecraft
An Australian gamer by the name of Martin Fornleitner, played the game for 24 hours and 10 minutes on his Sony Xperia Play.

Largest Indie Game Convention
Back in 2013, 7500 fans attended MineCon.

First Country Modeled at Full Scale in a Video Game
Did you know that a full scale country was created in MineCraft? Danish Geodata Agency was responsible for releasing a 1:1 scale model of Denmark last year in which four billion blocks were used.

Largest Real-World Place Created in Minecraft
In UK, the Ordnance Survey created a map of Britain and its islands by using geographical data. 22 million blocks were used for this purpose.

Most Concurrent Players in One Minecraft World
Back in August 2011, a YouTube channel Yogscast managed to squeeze 2,622 Minecraft players in one server.

Most Popular Game Beta
Minecraft also holds the record for the most popular beta in history. 10 million players were a part of the beta between December 20, 2010 and November 18, 2011.

Most Minecraft Snow Golems Built in One Minute
Nachtigall Vaz, a gamer from Brazil, managed to create 70 snow golems in one minute.

Most-Viewed Fan Film Based on a Video Game
The most popular video game based fan film is ‘Revenge’ – A Minecraft Parody of Usher’s DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love – Crafted Using Noteblocks created by YouTuber CaptainSparklez. The film has 139,888,399 views.

Most-Downloaded Minecraft Project
The most downloaded Minecraft project is called “The Dropper.” Players were tasked to fall through objects without hitting any obstacles. The project was downloaded 1,145,546 times.

Most-Played Xbox Live Game
Xbox 360 Edition of Minecraft was played for 1.75 billion hours, as of May last year.

Longest Journey in Minecraft
In Minecraft’s Survival Mode, Kurt J. Mac walked 919,592 miles to raise money for charity.
