There are millions among us who just love the pirate themed games that Ubisoft has developed in the Assassin’s Creed universe. As if all those games releasing each year weren’t enough, we are also going to get a movie – but you already knew that.

The news today is that now we know when we are going to get it.

According to a post by The Hollywood Reporter, many of Fox’s movies have been given release dates in the recent days. Among them is the Assassin’s Creed Movie that has been in the works ever since 2012.

However, this doesn’t mean that fans of the game series should start making plans with their mates for a visit to the cinema any time soon. You guys are still going to have to wait for nearly two years.

The official release date for the Assassin’s Creed Movie is December 21, 2016.

The movie is being directed by Justin Kurzel and stars, most notably, Michael Fassbender. Avid movie watchers will know Fassbender for a boatloads of roles that he has played in movies like 300, Inglourious Basterds, X-Men: First Class (Magneto), X-Men: Days of Future Past (Magneto again), and most importantly Shame and 12 Years a Slave.

He is well known for his roles in theatre too.

As far as Kurzel is concerned, his mosst notable work so far has been Snowtown while he is also working on a Macbeth movie alongside this one.

Coming back to the film in question, its release date will pit it together with another movie by Illumination Entertainment. It is also going to be sitting between one week’s distance from the release of a Star Wars spin off and The Greatest Showman on Earth.

Looks like the box office competition is going to be tough for Assassin’s Creed Movie.
