Gabriel Knight Launches First Part Of Free Comic Series
On December 17, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers celebrated its 21st anniversary. Gabriel Knight was a hit in the story-driven PC adventure era of Sierra On-line.
Developer Phoenix Online Studios, who recently produced the remake, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers: 20th Anniversary Edition, has put up a comic book to complement the joyous occasion.
Chapter 1 of the comic series is available for free right now on as a .pdf file, while the second and third chapter will come as free downloads in January. In the comic book, Schattenjäger is found in Germany. Gabriel discovers a new mystery to investigate in a rural town.
Writer Jane Jensen recently revived the Gabriel Knight series by taking a new project, Pinkerton Road, to Kickstarter in 2012, where it completed a successful campaign. Aside from bringing back the classic adventure, Jensen was able to produce a new PC adventure, Moebius: Empire Rising.
Recently, Sierra games have been enjoying, not so much of a revival, but at least a reemergence into the spotlight. For instance, the company’s founders were extensively highlighted during the 2014 Game Awards for their pioneering work in the industry.
During that presentation, it was also announced that there would be a new King’s Quest, one of Sierra’s most famous adventures. It makes use of contemporary cel-shaded visuals and is set for release in fall of 2015.
The Gabriel Knight is the first new story to appear in the series since the third iteration, Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned.
