GTA Online: Festive Surprise Update Brings Snowball Fights, Fireworks and Special Gifts

By   /   Dec 18, 2014

GTA Online is celebrating the holidays with the Festive Surprise update, which went live this morning and at the moment should be available across all platforms.

New weapons, vehicles and various masks, tattoos, hats are available. Have fun wielding the new homing launcher that costs $66,000 and placing proximity mines. Elf masks will help lighten the mood, as will various Christmas-themed tattoos, PJs and hats.

Rockstar Games is also throwing in snowball fights during the festive season. Be prepared with your Crew for a friendly snowball encounter around Los Santos.

While you’re at it, keep an eye on the skies for special Holiday Crates which will be frequently dropping now through January 5. These are stuffed with goodies that you’ll want to add to your inventory, including rare vintage GTA tees.

Logging in on December 25 will earn you a special gift. Rockstar hasn’t mentioned what’s to be expected, except that players should check their inventories on the day of Christmas.

Fireworks will return for New Year with the Firework Launcher and Firework rocket ammo. These will be available for use from Christmas Eve until January 5.

“You can score one for free on four special days: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day.”

Finally, you can take part in the Festive Surprise Snapmatic contest by taking a picture of your “merriest Christmas Crew family photo or the insanity of the New Year’s party you’re hosting” and tag it with #FestiveSurprise. In January, Rockstar will pick out five favorite shots and award the winners with $1 Million of in-game currency.
