Amiibo Support Coming To Third Party 3DS Game In Japan
Nintendo is all the rage right now with its line of amiibo figurines that can be used in conjunction with some of their games. Now, there is a third party who will be able to use the near field communication (NFC) peripherals as well.
Publisher Bandai Namco will get amiibo support for One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X, a newly released fighting game in Japan. This Nintendo 3DS title came out on November 13, 2014 and will receive an update this winter that integrates the figures.
One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X is reminiscent of Jump Ultimate Stars, a classic franchise brawler like Smash Bros, but with One Piece and other series instead. That ties it pretty close to home for the NFC devices, which originally launched in association with Nintendo’s fighter.
Certain amiibo functionalities have been discovered already. Mario and Luigi versions will unlock special costumes for Luffy, Zoro will match up with Link and Sanji works with Fox.
Some of these, Luigi and Fox, are part of the second wave of figurines that will release in Nintendo’s new way to make extra money. At least this is a good sign that the gadgets are branching out and will become more and more useful as time goes on.
As more games are added, it could also mean more sales for amiibo, which are reported as being scarce as it is. Though some of it may be overstatement, several stores have been selling out of several characters, making their prizes skyrocket on online markets.
Aside from One Piece Super Grand Battle! X, what localized third party games would make sense with amiibo support? Let us know in the comments.
