Runemaster Has Been Shelved For an Indefinite Period of Time

Runemaster was announced back in January 2014 at the same time when Hearts of Iron IV was announced. While the Hearts of Iron IV development is going just fine, Runemaster has been ‘frozen’ by Paradox Interative.

The official forums of the developer received a post from the chief operating officer of the studio, Susana Meza Graham.

In the post it was announced that the game was being shelved ‘until further notice’ and that the developers who were working on it are now being shifted to other projects.

This was not an easy decision to make – Runemaster was a very ambitious project for us, and the team working on it brought all of their passion, dedication, and talent to the table. Despite our best efforts and a couple of re-scopes, Runemaster in its current form was unable to live up to the standards we set for ourselves here at Paradox.

She said that while they were not able to realize their vision for the game completely it was a different game for them.

While she used the word ‘freeze,’ looking at language used, I highly doubt that they will be taking up the project again anytime sooner.

As for the future of the related developers is concerned, many of them will be moved to Hearts of Iron IV, Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV.

As far as Runemaster is concerned, Graham also said that they will ‘look into how we can re-use the best parts of the game in other ways.’ This further strengthens the possibility that the game might never actually get completed.
