Many Amiibo Figurines Are Being Discontinued Says Nintendo

Nintendo launched Amiibo less than a month ago; on November 21 to be exact and ever since then, numerous fans have been purchasing them for bestselling games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros.

This has led to shortages on the stores and now, surprisingly, Nintendo says that this is in accordance with their plans. They are discontinuing many of the figurines after the ‘initial shipment’ runs out.

According to the full statement provided by Nintendo itself, the reason for the discontinuation of certain figurines is due to shelf space issues:

We will aim for certain amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link. Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.

Well, seeing how the company has been really excited about introducing the range of these figurines into the market it would be a lie if I said I wasn’t surprised a bit.

Not just that; currently, many of the figurines went short after the launch and are being sold for sky high prices by the people who purchased them. In fact, some are being sold for as much as $70! Now compare that to their original price of $12.99 and you will know what I mean.

Coming back to Nintendo’s decision, they haven’t detailed which of the 12 figurines are going to be shipped again and which ones are being dropped but I think that is going to be relative to the popularity of the character.

What other Amiibo characters would you love for them to continue shipping other than Mario and Link?
