Dying Light Gets a Story Trailer, Writer Reveals Its Inspiration

Dying Light is based around the same old zombie outbreak concept. A genre that has received so many games, requires some innovation to keep things fresh and interesting don’t you think? Thankfully, Dying Light is looking to shake things up a bit.

Dying Light is being developed by a polish studio named Techland and so far, the game has managed to get my attention. Mainly because I loved Mirror’s Edge by EA.

As you can see in the video above, Techland has combined Mirror’s Edge style gameplay with first person action survival horror. The first person view alone, is enough to elevate our heartbeats while running for our lives, trying to avoid being a zombie’s happy meal.

The game not only features great gameplay mechanics but an intense story and characters which you can connect with.

Your goal is simple, do whatever is necessary to survive. “Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten.”

There’s always an inspiration behind every creation and as for the story of Dying Light, it was inspired by the works of Albert Camus (The Plague) and Joseph Conrad (Heart of Darkness).

According to one of the authors of Dying Light, Randal Orkan, they wanted to give an “insight” on the emotions and reactions of people, when dealing with the “extreme.”

In his own words he explained:

“With our game, we wanted to evoke similar emotions and offer players an insight into how people react to the extreme,”

Dying Light is not too far away from release, and it will be available starting January 27, 2015. Techland has also announced a season pass for the game, about which you can read more here.
