Eidos’ New Dawn Engine Removes All Previous Creative Limitations

Eidos Montreal is pretty excited about its new Dawn Engine.

Today the studio posted on its official blog to introduce the modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier 2 engine, which in the past has powered titles like Hitman: Absolution.

The accompanying screenshot is not from a new Deus Ex title but is to show what one would look like when made in the new Dawn Engine. The studio’s Sacha Ramtohul made this clear by mentioning that the shot is to “display the level of detail and artistic fidelity that is possible” with the engine.

“As you can imagine, the Dawn Engine will form the cornerstone for all Deus Ex Universe projects at Eidos-Montréal,” he wrote. “Some of you have had concerns that ‘Universe’ meant ‘MMO’. Rest assured, it does not.

“Deus Ex Universe is the name we are giving to the fictional world and the rich lore we are creating for it, which will of course include core games, as well as any other projects that will help bring the world of Deus Ex to life.”

Ramtohul also said that in the past they have relied on existing engines for their games but this caused them to face creative limitations. The new Dawn Engine will allow the team to go beyond those obstacles and deliver something special.

As to when we can see a new Deus Ex installment, only time will tell.
