It’s Not Appropriate to Sell GTA 5 Even to Adults Says Target Australia

By   /   Dec 3, 2014

Alright this one really came out as a shocker, Target Australia has decided that GTA 5 has a lot of violence against women which is why they will be taking the game down from their shelves.

The general manager of corporate affairs at Target, Jim Cooper recently said that the decision had been taken after a majority of the customer feedback received by them had suggested so:

We’ve been speaking to many customers over recent days about the game, and there is a significant level of concern about the game’s content. We’ve also had customer feedback in support of us selling the game, and we respect their perspective on the issue. However, we feel the decision to stop selling GTA5 is in line with the majority view of our customers.

This is, in their opinion, is slightly different from other games or movies with similar content being sold at their store. Apparently, they don’t think it is appropriate to sell GTA 5 even to adults – unlike other games with offensive content.

Needless to say, other games with violent content are not being taken down.

Well, it is not the first time that games (especially GTA) are at the receiving end of criticism. As far as violence is concerned, there have been claims that games like GTA 5 are to be blamed for the London Riots and even the Washington Killings last year.

Violence against women however, is a serious concern and should not be taken lightly. How much can we penalize games like GTA 5 for it debatable and we would love to hear from you on this.
