Dragon Age Inquisition Hissing Wastes Quests

Holding the Hissing Wastes
Giver: Scout Harding
Rewards: 200 influence and 1 power per camp

This is the simplest side-quest in The Hissing Wastes locale. You are required to establish seven camps across the entirety of The Hissing Waste to complete this side-quest. For every camp, you will acquire 1 power.

Field of Bones
Giver: A journal found near the Four Pillars
Rewards: 331 XP and 150 influence

You will stumble upon this note near the Four Pillars and come to know about a missing Venatori Patrol. Furthermore, you will come to know about spiders roaming in the area where the patrol was assigned.

After reaching the designed location, you will find nothing but dead bodies and some spiders. Take out the spiders and explore the nearby areas to find a chest containing some valuable loot.

Claim the loot and leave the area to complete this simple side-quest.

Let’s Slay the Beast
Giver: Hunter
Rewards: 5,067 XP, 600 influence, and 2 power

In this side-quest, you are required to find and kill a legendary beast. Speak with the Hunter and you will come to know about one roaming near the Golden Oasis located to the northwest corner of The Hissing Wastes.

The beast in discussion is a Varghest accompanied by several young Wyverns. There is no way your party should not be able to deal with this beast at this point. Simply kill the beast and its accomplices to complete this side-quest.

Notes on the Wastes
Giver: A journal found in the wastes
Rewards: 1,269 XP and 150 influence

While wandering about The Hissing Wastes, you will receive several pings on your mini-map. These pings refer to one of right journal pages left by a Dwarven Explorer.

All you are required to find all eight journal pages scattered in the area to complete this side-quest.

Sand and Ruin
Giver: A sand-covered note
Rewards: 5,076 XP, 600 influence, and 2 power

In this side-quest, you are required to set up camps across the desert.

The first camp you need to establish is near Four Pillars Camp, North of the Cove. Once you have defeated Venatori, set up your own camp and explore the nearby ruins to find more information about Venatori.

The next camp you need to set is near the canyon to the west side. You will come across this place near another Dwarven Ruin. The next Venatori camp is near the Watchtower.

Once you have established your own campsite, head over to a bench located in the area and read some books placed on it. These books will provide you with more information on the campsite on Sunstop Mountains region.

Once you get to the Sunstop Mountains Camp, I would recommend taking out small groups of enemies before taking on larger forces. You need to be careful about tackling the Overseer. This Mage is capable of dealing high damage to your party.

After you have found all documents in the area and have established camps across all four regions, this side-quest will complete.

The Tomb of Fairel
Giver: Find a key fragment in The Hissing Wastes
Rewards: 10,152 XP, 2,000 influence, and 3 power

In this side-quest, you are required to find different key fragments and find treasures scattered across the area. First off, you need to head towards the Four Pillars Camp Ruins.

In this area, you are required to light torches in correct order. You can know all about the correct order by reading the passages on the pillars before lighting them. Here is the order you need to follow:

This is the tale of Fairel, Paragon among Paragons, father of two sons,
Who, against their father’s wishes, fought from foolish words and foolish pride
For pride these halls were made—to honor a father’s deed, and grieve his loss.
And for loss these halls were made, to honor a brother mourned.

After solving the puzzle, head over to the northwest corner of the wastes and complete another puzzle similar to the one mentioned above. Here is the order that you need to follow in order to complete this puzzle:

Fairel, Paragon, fled from the strife his brilliance created,
The strife that destroyed thaigs, sundered houses, from weapons that clan used against clan.
His own clan and two sons followed Fairel to the pitiless surface,
The surface where they would hide from the war that took their home.

Once the above puzzle is done, head over towards The Tomb in the Canyon and solve another puzzle – similar to the ones provided above. Below is a quick rundown of everything that you need to do:

Ater many years Fairel, greatest of Paragons, could not bear life’s burden.
And with the burden growing, he called his sons to his bedside.
He bade each son swear he would take care of his brother,
And the brothers swore, and mourned when their father returned to the Stone.

From this area, you are required to move towards Burial Grounds Tomb which is located in the southwestern side of the wastes. Once again, you are required to complete the small puzzle by lighting the torches:

Fairel’s sons built monuments to their father, locking away his great works,
And worked together, for a time, side by side. Each ruled half the thaig,
But each ruled differently. They argued, and heated words made the brothers duel,
And where one brother fell, the other raised bloodied axe in hand, alone.

In order to grab the last fragment, you are required to head inside the Mountain Fortress Tomb and complete one last piece of puzzle:

The sun burned above oceans of sand,
But in the sand was Stone, strong and true.
Fairel hewed the stone, and built—as great as any thaig in the deep.
And with his sons’ help, he ensured the thaig prospered and grew.

Once you have acquired all key fragments, you need to head inside the Tomb of Fairel which is located in the northeast corner of the starting camp. I would recommend getting past the High Dragon before claiming the treasure.
