Scrapped SimCity Console Project Comes to Light

It has come to light that EA was once working on a console version of SimCity that was supposed to release alongside the PC version last year. However, the project was abandoned for unknown reasons and EA ended up focusing entirely on the PC version.

The news comes from Liam Robertson of Unseen64 — a site that likes to dig up information on unreleased titles. According to Robertson, the project was intended to hit the PS3, 360 and Wii U, but was scrapped in October 2011 during the prototype phase.

SimCity was released last year for the PC and though it was met with warm reviews, the launch was plagued with several online issues due to its controversial “always online” DRM feature. The launch ended up as being a total disaster and EA had to work overtime in doing damage control.

What are the chances that EA is now putting the PC launch behind it and working towards a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of SimCity? With its constant micro-management, many believe that the franchise should to the PC platform.
