Far Cry 4 Errors, Crashes, Flickering, Stuttering, Graphics Bugs, Performance Fixes

List of Far Cry 4 errors, crashes, flickering, stuttering, graphics bugs, performance issues with workarounds to fix them along with blackscreen and audio issues.

Far Cry 4 undoubtedly has been one of the most anticipated games this year. However, with the abysmal performance of Assassin’s Creed Unity, many of us were concerned if Far Cry 4 will be able to hold its own.

The good news is that the game plays far better than Unity in terms of performance. However, there are some issues that might need some fixing.

A couple of patches have already been rolled out, and I am hoping that the remaining issues will also be fixed with time.

In the meantime, you can browse through the following troubleshooting list to find a possible fix/workaround for your problem.

#1 Far Cry 4 Stuck in Windowed Mode
If your game starts in Windowed mode by default, you need to press Alt+Enter to get into the full screen.

If that doesn’t work, you can make use of the launch options to run the game in full screen.

#2 Far Cry 4 Crashes With “Stopped Working”
Many users have reported this error with updated GPU drivers and hardware capable enough to run the game.

As far as the fix is concerned, you need to unplug any extra USB peripherals connected to your PC like gaming wheels or gamepads. Try booting the game again and it should work now.

#3 Far Cry 4 SLI Not Working
If you are an Nvidia user and are sure that your SLI is not working then install the latest drivers optimized for Far Cry 4. It goes without saying that you also should have all the updates installed.

#4 Far Cry 4 Performance Issue/Artifacts
If you are getting weird artifacts on different visual settings, try turning on Vsync.

If that doesn’t help, you should use the latest version for your GPU drivers. Manufacturers usually release new drivers with the major games like Far Cry 4 so watch out for the recent updates.

#5 Far Cry 4 Game Crashes With 0xc000007b Error
Although it’s usually a run-time error there could be multiple reasons for this error to pop up. Instead of going into troubleshooting all the possibilities one by one, I will recommend this short tutorial to fix the issue.

#6 Far Cry 4 Doesn’t Launch and Shuts Down Prematurely
The first thing you should do is make sure that you have disconnected all your USB gamepads or wheels on your PC (keyboard and mouse are excluded of course).

If that doesn’t work, make sure that you aren’t running applications like MSI Afterburner in the background.

#7 Far Cry 4 Audio Not Working Fix
The first thing you can try is – to change 5.1 setting to 2.1 in the playback options. If that doesn’t work, disabling Dolby Live setting in Windows audio options seems to fix the issue.

#8 Far Cry 4 Game Crashes with “Failed to start the game (invalid config app)” Error
It’s most probably a Steam-related issue. You need to re-install it to fix the problem.

You can also try running the game from inside the game’s directory without Steam. Furthermore, make sure that you have all the patches installed for your game.

#9 Far Cry 4 Black Screen Fix
If you are using a screen refresh rate of more than 60, try lowering it and see if the problem is fixed.

Otherwise, if you have any extra USB peripherals attached to your system like a gamepad, you should either disable them or disconnect them to make the game work properly.

#10 Far Cry 4 Performance Issue, Flickering Fix
If you are experiencing flickering or screen tearing, you should first try enabling Vsync. If it’s enabled by default, try running the game in the borderless window to fix it.

If you are running SLI or Crossfire and experiencing the same issue, you will have to wait for a new driver release which hopefully will fix the issue.

#11 Far Cry 4 – How to Disable Mouse Acceleration
For some users, disabling Smoothness and Sommothness_ironsight (changing the value to 0) in GamerProfile.xml file has done the trick but for many, it hasn’t changed anything. You can find the GamerProfile.xml in the My Games/Far Cry 4 folder.

There is no other workaround or fix known yet. Hopefully, it will get fixed with future updates or if you have fixed it already, don’t forget to share it with us in the comments below!

#12 Far Cry 4 Error MSVCR100.dll is Missing
You should run all the executable files present in the redist folder of the game. You could also choose to download the latest version of DirectX and re-install it to fix the problem.

#13 Far Cry 4 – Uplay Freezes or takes a long Loading Time
If you have any controller plugged in, disable it to avoid the lockups especially if you are using a tool like Xinput.

#14 Far Cry 4 – Game Settings Not Being Saved
You need to run the game as an administrator. Right-click the “.exe” file and click properties. Tick the option “run as administrator to fix it”.

If you come across any other issue, comment and we will help you out!
