Microsoft Trademarks Battletoads, Reboot Incoming?
Microsoft has been reported to have filed a trademark for Battletoads, which may or may not mean that Rare is working to revive the classic franchise.
The studio first launched the beat ’em up in 1991 for the SNES and was originally planned to compete with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. The game stars three toads named Rash, Zitz and Pimple – yes they were all named after skin conditions.
The games were pretty popular but incredibly hard to deal with. Who can forget those racing/surfing levels which were almost impossible to beat in the first dozen tries.
That said, it still was a treat to play the game every time. Mainly because it was so satisfying to land punches and kicking enemies around the screen.
There were rumors of Microsoft reviving the series, to which Rare had always declined to comment on. With this recent trademark filing it’s, pretty evident that Microsoft is getting ready for 2015 and a next-gen Battletoads title would turn every head around.
Currently there’s no information on whether it will be exclusive to the Xbox One, or if it will be even console-exclusive.
