Halo 4’s Chris Schlerf is Writing the Next Mass Effect Game

Chris Schlerf, the lead writer for the critical smash hit Halo 4, has been revealed to be on board for the next Mass Effect game.

It was a big surprise to see Schlerf’s name mentioned by BioWare today as it announced some of the team leads working on the next installment. According to the writer, he joined the team back in November last year but since then had to keep his involvement a secret.

“Every day is a revelation and every day I get to play in a new corner of the universe,” he wrote in the official announcement. “To be able to look three steps ahead to, ‘Where does this take us and how does it add to the way we look at the Mass Effect trilogy?’ You couldn’t ask for a better playground.”

Schlerf looks really pleased to be working on the new Mass Effect game. He teased that he would once again be bringing life to characters that will relay an engaging story, much like what we’ve seen from his previous works.

“As a writer, I write for characters,” he said. “To me, it’s always about what makes my characters tick and what stories I can tell through those characters that will actually engage people about their own lives. It provides a mirror to that player’s experience [so that they are] not just sitting back in an armchair.”

At this point, there’s practically next to nothing we know about the new Mass Effect game. Everyone’s dubbing it as Mass Effect 4 but the final game could have a new name altogether. We do know that it will take place in the Mass Effect universe but will feature an all new cast.
