The first expansion pack for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is called Heavensward and will release in Spring 2015, Square Enix has announced.

Speaking during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Las Vegas, the publisher revealed that the first expansion to the game will take players to Ishgard where they will find themselves in an ongoing thousand-year war between the city and Dravinia.

The gates to the city will finally be opened next year and players will then venture forward to find that the city of Ishgard is ruled by an archbishop and “four noble horses.” The envrironments will vary between fields, highlands, mountains and floating land masses “above and beyond a sea of clouds.”

According to reports on the web, there will also be a sub-plot that will revolve around The Wyrmking and his issues with Thordan and his Knights Twelve.

The Heavensward expansion pack is said to introduce a new playable character race which is hinted to be the Viangaa. It will also bring new recipes, gear, jobs, dungeons, raids, areas and more.

More information will probably head our way in due time but until then you can check out the expansion’s teaser trailer above, which focuses on the conflict against the dragons.
