This Marketing Campaign Demanding Half Life 3 is Ridiculous
Do you need Half Life 3? Yes, we need Half Life 3! However these two guys are going a little out of rationale to get Valve Corporation to develop it for us.
They have started an IndieGoGo page saying that they want every Valve employee to understand how much does the community needs HL3, but from what I can see, they are edging more towards harassment.
I do not doubt their intentions, I know they want what we want but the way they are thinking of trying to achieve their targets is a little overboard. Here’s what their plan is:
We’re here to show Valve that the Half-Life community is strong, united and when bound together, will prove how badly we need Half-Life 3. Our goal with all of this? To get Valve to finish the game we’ve dreamed about for all these years.
It’s taken nearly the amount of brainpower that was in Black Mesa, but we have devised a simple, yet diabolical plan. Our mission is to enable Half-Life fans to contribute towards an advertising campaign aimed at reaching every single employee at Valve.
Monetarily, they are looking to raise $150,000 but so far only $51 have been raised.
What they are going to do includes an AdWord Campaign that would pop up among the Google search results whenever you look up one of the Valve employees. I am expecting each one of them to be an intimidating ‘we want Half Life 3’ ad from the looks of it.
The next is to create mobile billboards that would roam around the city and ‘besiege Valve HQ in Bellevue, Washington until their white flag is raised.’
Moving on they are planning to besiege Gabe Newell by ‘a bunch of Gabe Newell lookalikes’ at Valve’s doorsteps – as if that doesn’t sound harassment at all.
The last part includes a full on concert themed around Half Life series for the fans and the developers together – this one is kinda cool.
What makes this slightly ridiculous is that do you think Valve needs reminding about the next iteration in the series that actually made them what they are?
Or do you think that Valve hasn’t already witnessed how much the community wants it through constant reminders on Steam, Reddit, YouTube and all the social platforms?
Lastly, what makes you think that the developers would suddenly scrap all their schedules and get ‘besieged’ into revealing Half Life 3 when you want?
They will make it, but they will make it on their own time – being the developers of a billion dollar franchise gave them that position.
