ESL One New York 2014 Viewed By Over 2 Million
Gaming sports company Electronic Sports League or ESL has wrapped up another one of its events, this time one of the most prestigious so far. Last week, it hosted ESL One New York 2014 in the middle of the city, at Madison Square Garden itself.
ESL chose the smaller venue of the iconic building, the Theater, which was able to pack 5,000 attendees. This venue had previously put on big acts like Panic at the Disco and will open itself to anything from Maroon 5 to Skrillex, to give you an idea.
ESL One New York 2014 hosted a Dota 2 tournament, which saw the world’s top eight teams take on each other. In the final game, team Evil Geniuses took on Vici Gaming.
In the end, Vici Gaming, who also took second place in The International 4, won the round and was able to snag a prize pool of $130,000. Evil Geniuses were also first runner up at a previous event, ESL One Frankfurt 2014, which took place alongside Gamescom.
ESL seems to be pretty timely about running its events. ESL One New York 2014 also ran during New York Super Week, a spectacle held to lead in the city’s known Comic Con.
Over two million people tuned in to watch the latest ESL tournament. This makes it the largest eSports event held on the East Coast of the US, though that’s admittedly rather specific.
Once more, ESL will try to replicate this specific success with their following setup, taking place at the other side of the US. On December 6 and 7, the Intel Extreme Masters will host competitions for League of Legends and Starcraft II in San Jose.
