Massacre Threats Force Anita Sarkeesian to Call off Speech at USU
Although we don’t want it; feminism, hate speech and more have been the topic of discussion among the gaming community a lot lately. Among all that, the issue with Anita Sarkeesian who has been facing harassment for a while now has been quite prominent.
However, what happened recently went beyond the wildest imaginations of someone who really thinks we have had enough of hatred now. Sarkeesian was scheduled for a talk in the Utah State University on October 15, but someone didn’t like it.
A letter was received by the faculty that threatened with a massacre if she was allowed to come and hold the talk. The anonymous writer vowed to make it ‘the deadliest school shooting in American history.’
Here’s an excerpt from the letter that the anonymous guy wrote to the university that led to Anita Sarkeesian cancelling the talk herself:
If you do not cancel her talk, a Montreal Massacre style attack will be carried out against attendees, as well as students and staff at the nearby Women’s Canter. I have at my disposal a semi-automatic rifle, multiple pistols, and a collection of pipe bombs. This will be the deadliest school shooting in American history and I am giving you a chance to stop it.
After the University had confirmed it, they went on to announce that Anita Sarkeesian had called off the speech due to the threats. They said that everything else in the university will go on according to the schedule.
However, investigation is being held and it is hoped that the culprits would be found and charged soon.
