Hearthstone Expansion To Bring A Ton of New Cards
More than 20 million people have already signed up to try Hearthstone, which is a card game based on the characters of World of Warcraft. It’s a perfect example that free to play games can be fun and addictive.
Of course, a popular game-like Hearthstone needs to be expanded and in a card game like this, in order to keep players engaged, new cards must be introduced. According to producer director Jason Chayes, Blizzard is planning a new expansion for Hearthstone.
In an interview Chayes revealed that the expansion in question will add more than 100 new cards.
I think we’re going to mix it up a little bit with this next release, which will be our first expansion,” Chayes said. “It will have a lot more cards. We’re talking about more than 100. We are going to have a central theme for how that will all fit together. That’ll be the next thing coming up.
Hearthstone’s single player expansion Curse of Naxxramas came out not too long ago and was received well by the fans. It is really surprising that the number of players of a free to play card game have even surpassed World of Warcraft.
The game currently has around 450 collectable cards so it might take players sometime to get a full understanding of each and everyone of them.
A similar game known as Magic: The Gathering has so many cards that the developers had to limit what can be played in some game modes at a certain time.
Will Blizzard be doing something like that? Chayes had this to say:
If we do reach that point because there are just that many cards in the available set, one of the things we definitely want to make sure of is that there are ways to continue playing with all of your cards, and that it feels really good to be participating in these various modes.
Not much else is known about the expansion yet, but hopefully we will hear something soon at Blizzcon, which kicks off on November 7.
