Square Enix Announces Shinra Technologies, Cloud Based Gaming Platform
Back in the early days off this month, Square Enix had teased about an alleged cloud based gaming project of theirs.
However, back then it wasn’t officially confirmed what the future would bring. Now, however, they have announced the platform and given it an official name, it’s called Shinra Technologies.
So far, we have only heard of one company that goes by with this name. The Final Fantasy fans would remember Shinra Electric Power Company from Final Fantasy VII, and that is what the cloud gaming platform has been named after.
Former president of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada will be leading the company as the president. He has plans to provide a ‘new ecosystem for the games industry.’
He said that while the industry is continuing to expand it still does need a correction of the path every now and then. Shinra Technologies is going to make sure that it aids in this regard.
According to him, 2016 will be a key year for cloud based gaming which he also sees as the future of gaming. He is eyeing AAA games to be streamed via cloud based architecture. For this, he said, they need a break through:
We needed a technical breakthrough to make this happen. If we simply bring traditional games to the cloud, you will never get a game experience that surpasses current games. We want developers to create entirely new games with revolutionary game experiences.
Shinra Technologies will start working as a beta service in early 2015 for the Japanese region it will be accompanied by famous Square Enix titles like FF7, Hitman Absolution, Deuss Ex Human Revolution, Tomb Raider and Space Sweeper a new title.
