Samsung and Oculus Working on New VR Headset For Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Oculus’ Chief Technology Officer John Carmack has announced the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition, a virtual reality headset that will be powered by Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4.
The project sees both Samsung and Oculus joining forces and the final product is said to take advantage of the Galaxy Note 4’s features to provide sharper HD visuals and increased performance.
“We are thrilled to reveal the Gear VR Innovator Edition, a state-of-the-art mobile VR experience powered by Oculus,” said John Carmack. “The deep technical partnership with Samsung has enabled us to create a virtual reality headset with world class resolution and performance, all on a completely mobile platform.”
The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition is currently in early-access beta, but the final product will feature plenty of software. This includes Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron where users can experience Tony Stark’s Lab, DreamWorks VR where users can interact with DreamWorks characters, Pacific Rim where users can immerse themselves as a Jaeger Pilot, live interactive concerts and much more.
There’s also a driving and combat simulator where in the former users “connect with the physical world” and infiltrate enemy grounds in the latter.
There’s still no word on when the final product will be available in the markets. From the looks of it though, a prototype is already sent for testing purposes and is probably in the hands of relative third-party handlers for their own apps.
