Hearthstone’s Next Expansion Coming Soon, Will Not Feature Single-Player

Following the release of Curse of Naxxramas, Blizzard has revealed that the next expansion for Hearthstone will be coming soon.

Speaking with Joystiq at PAX Prime, lead designer Eric Dodds explained that the expansion will add plenty of new cards and in fact players can expect the total number to reach around 100.

Dodds also stated that the upcoming expansion pack will be different from Curse of Naxxramas, which he referred to as an “adventure.” The upcoming expansion pack will not feature any single-player content and will instead focus on the conventional Player-Versus-Player mode for which the game is recognized for.

He said that Hearthstone is “primarily a PvP game” and while the single-player content allows the developers to steer players into trying out new classes and strategies, it’s ultimately in the multiplayer arena where they take on those strategies.

Dodds also revealed that the iPhone and Android versions of the game are “still in progress” and they should release by the end of the year. He didn’t clarify as to whether that means before the holiday season or literally the end of the year.

A portable version of the game is going to be a smashing success for Blizzard, not that the current versions are doing bad.

The nature of Hearthstone being a card game, makes us want to flip out our smartphones while on the road and go through a couple of matches in quick time. Come the portable releases, that will be a possibility.
