SimCity Mod ‘Project Orion’ Makes Bigger Cities Possible

By   /   Aug 27, 2014

SimCity Had some “Technical Limitations” due to which there were some strict boundaries set for the size of your City, but that has now changed.

After More than a year since the game came out, Modders has come up with a solution to the problem in the form of Project Orion. A mod that extends the size of your City to 3km.

Sounds great, but the mod isn’t all perfect and you might have trouble while building new cities nearby considering that land value, population, water etc will be misaligned.

You will also have to improvise the happiness levels for each zone regarding offset map situations. You can download the Project Orion from simtropolis.

Anyway, if you are interested in trying this mod, you will need to follow these simple steps to install the mod and you’re good to go.

  • Download files
  • Once download is complete, extract rar files. (right click > extract)
  • Simply copy and paste OFFLINE-ONLY_Project_Orion_3k_Extended_Boundary.package
  • Start SimCity > Play new map > Choose city tile > Save > Quit SimCity (not work if exit to Main Menu)
  • Re-Start SimCity > Resume Game

Maxis, the creator of SimCity has made no official comment on the mod, but when the game was launched they stated that “months of testing” had gone into the city size, with “system performance issues” making anything larger than the default size impossible.

Although the mod is still being worked on for the time being, we will have to wait and see if this mod is able to make it possible without any issues. If you have tried out the mod, do share your experience with us in the comments below.
