Pillar For PS4 is a Collection of Mini-Games Based on Human Personalities
Pillar is an ambitious new game for PS4 that focuses on different types of human personalities.
According to lead game designer Michael Hicks who announced the game on Playstation Blog and described it as a collection of minigames:
Pillar is a collection of minigames, where each game represents a different type of personality that we find in people.
For example, there are introverts who lose energy from being around people, extroverts who expand energy from interacting with others, characters who make decisions with logic, characters who make decisions with feeling and so on.
My goal is to express these traits entirely through gameplay mechanics.
Pillar is still in the early stage of development, and developer is not ready to show any gameplay. Guess what inspired the idea for this game? Interestingly it is the movie Magnolia, based on multiple characters with multiple storylines.
Hicks further added that he thought designing games like movies is taking us in the wrong direction, and he wanted to make a game that tells the story through its gameplay mechanics.
I think that designing a game like a film is leading us in the wrong direction. I wanted to make a game that tells a “story” non-verbally, through gameplay mechanics, without any cut scenes or dialogue.
