Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas Military Quarter Guide – Heroic Decks, Strategy

Following Arachnid Quarter and Plague Quarter in Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas, the next is Military Quarter which brings in new set of challenges, bosses to defeat, and cards to try out.

Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas Military Quarter

Similar to my guides on previous two Quarters, I will be detailing basic strategies to defeat both Normal and Heroic versions of all the bosses. Furthermore, I will also be providing you with sample decks, based on which, you will be able to form your own unique strategies and decks.

Instructor Razuvious

Hero Power: Unbalancing Strike

Basic Strategy
Instructor Razuvious’ Hero Power is insanely powerful for +3 damage for a 2 mana cost. Using this ability, this boss can easily take out your weak taunt minions; therefore, it is advised that you either have a lot of them or have ones with high-HP.

As for his health, he starts with +40 HP and two 0/7 minions. In addition to this, he also has a 2 mana weapons called Massive Runeblade that deals +5 damage and has +2 durability. Read on to find some sample decks that seem to work well against Normal and Heroic versions of this boss.

Recommended Decks for Normal Instructor Razuvious

Deck #1
With this deck, your starting hand should contain Northshire Cleric, Inner Fire, Power Word: Shield, and Acidic Swamp Ooze.

The basic strategy involved with this deck is to defend yourself until he utilizes his both Brawl(s). Before this point, it is not wise to have many minions on the board. Once you see him utilize the Brawl, make taunts and enforce them.

Coming to your minions, you need to save both your Acidic Swamp Ooze and Bloodsail Corsair for the boss’s weapon. Once again, you can play around with different cards and see what works best for you.

Deck #2
For this deck, your starting hand should contain Circle of Healing, Mind Vision, Divine Spirit, and Inner Fire.

You need to keep your 0/7 alive as long as possible. If the boss has not used his weapon, you should not deal any damage to them. Just keep on buffing them while he controls them and then turn them against him. It is a good idea to have one of them at minimum of +15 HP.

Another thing that you need to keep in mind is not to underestimate the taunt. Against a Heroic boss, having no taunts simply means game over for you.

Furthermore, do not have all of your minions on board at the same time as it will put you in a danger of losing all your taunts in a Brawl. And lastly, Lightwell also seems to work wonders against this boss as he will completely ignore it for some reason.

Deck #3
For this deck, your starting deck should contain Mana Wyrm, Mirror Image, and Sorcerer’s Apprentice or Duplicate.

The basic strategy involved in using this deck is to throw as much taunts in front of the boss, as possible. With this deck, you get 6 taunt cards and 4 enablers in Sunfury Protectors and Defender of Argus which will turn your non-taunters into more meatshileds.

Another thing that you need to do with this deck is to save Acidic Swamp of Ooze and Harrison Jones for his weapon. And lastly, Ragnaros the Firelord can act as a solid removal and deal some good amount of damage to Razuvious.

Recommended Decks for Heroic Instructor Razuvious

Deck #1
With this deck, it is advisable that you have Inner Fire, Divine Spirit, Shadow Word: Pain, Acidic Swamp Ooze, Mind Vision, Thoughtsteal, and Bloodsail Corsair in your starting hand.

Just as the match begins, use your Mind Control Crystal on Understudies and buff them immediately using Inner Fire or Divine Spirit. Once you’ve done this, divert your attention to the boss while healing your minions from time to time. If, however, your Understudies die, starting buffing up your other taunt minions.

The next thing that you want to do is to steal Razuvious’ Massive Runeblade weapon using Mind Vision or Thoughtsteal. Getting hold of this weapon ends the fight fairly quickly.

Deck #2
With this deck, you need to have Bloodsail Corsair and Acidic Swamp Ooze.

This deck is designed to help the new Hearthstone players with most of the minions having +5 or more than +5 HP. However, it can be really frustrating to get rid of this his sword. For this purpose, we will use either Bloodsail Corsair or Acidic Swamp Ooze.

Let’s assume you are unable to get rid of his weapon! In this case, you need to put a ton of low-HP taunting minions on board. Also, keep an eye out for Brawl as it can really turn the tables during the battle.

Deck #3
This is a really cheap deck which not only works for defeating Heroic Instructor Razuvious, but also Heroic the Four Horsemen. When planning to take down Razuvious, try and get Divine Spirit and Inner Fire in your starting hand.

The basic strategy involved in using this deck is to stay focused on the boss while buffing his undamaged minions. The first thing that you need to do is to take his Understudies and buff them up using Inner Fire. Another important aspect to keep in mind is not to play more than 2 creatures at a given time.

This boss is capable of taking them out by relative ease using his Brawl.

Gothik the Harvester

Hero Power: Harvest

Basic Strategy
The hero power of this boss allows him to draw a card for 2 mana cost without any additional damage dealt to your character.

Gothik can also play a 2/2 minion dubbed as Unrelenting Trainee which produces a Spectral Trainee when it dies and deals +1 damage to your hero at the start of your turn. In addition to this, he also has Unrelenting Riders which produces 0/6 Spectral Riders after dying and deal +1 damage to your hero.

There are a number of ways using which you can easily deal with these Spectral Minions. You can either use Silence or Transformation Spells on these minions to turn them against their caster and further buff them for more damage output.

Recommended Decks for Normal Gothik the Harvester

Deck #1
This deck is proven to work against both Normal and Heroic forms of Gothik the Harvester along with other bosses of the Military Quarter. Your starting hand ought to contain Auchenai Soulpriest and Circle of Healing combo.

Just as the fight starts, you will notice that Gothik will have a lot of low-HP minions on the board. With the combination of Auchenai Soulpriest and Circle of Healing, you will ensure that the board is always clear. Furthermore, with these cards, you will also be able to kill any Spectral Minions on the board.

The taunts in this deck are the key to winning this fight! Once Gothik starts using Unstable Ghoul and Abomination, make sure to use their Deathrattles to clear the boss’s board. At last, he will run out of cards and you will easily kill him by Fatigue.

Deck #2
Similar to Deck #1, this deck is also designed to take out all Military Quarter bosses. However, you won’t find them much useful for taking out Heroic forms of these bosses. For your starting hand, try and get Shadow Word: Pain and Shadow Word: Death.

Your basic strategy involves killing his minions using Shadow Word: Pain & Death followed by using Divine Spirit and Inner Fire on Spectral Trainees. Once again, having taunt minions is pretty useful against this boss.

Deck #3
With this deck, you need to mulligan into cards which have early taunts like Sungfury Protector, Nerubian Egg, or Haunted Creeper.

Furthermore, you can also try and go for some early removal with cards like Claw or Wrath. It is recommended that once you begin taking out Gothik’s minions, convert them into taunts using Sunfury Protector and Defender of Argus.

However, if you don’t plan on doing it, you can also go for buffing them up with Raid Leader, Savage Roar, or Mark of the Wild.

Recommended Decks for Heroic Gothik the Harvester

Deck #1
With this deck, your starting hand should contain Sunfury Protector, Unstable Ghoul, and DeathLord.

When playing with this deck, AI is sure to case Abomination during third or fourth turn. In order to counter this, you need to go with Abomination or Faceless Manipulator.

When two Abomination neutralize each other, you will see that Area-of-Effect will remove most of the 0/X tokens. Other cards that you can use to make good use of tokens are Inner Rage, Cruel Taskmaster, Sunfury Protector, Raid Leader, and Defender of Argus.

Deck #2
For your starting hand, you can go with anything you want, but it will be good to have Mind Vision.

This deck is useful against all bosses that Military Quarter throws at you, but in order to take out Gothik, you need to defend until you counter his Abomination with Holy Nova and Smite. Doing so will also allow you to take out the spirits. In addition to this, you can also go for making a heavy taunter with Divine Spirit.

Deck #3
With this deck, you need to let Gothik play as much units as possible and then take them all out. Try and stall an additional turn by using Freeze Spells which will give force the boss to play additional units.

You need to use Raid Leader and Shattered Sun Cleric in order to get rid of the ghosts. Also, remember that Ghosts will not be your only problem in the fight as you will also be dealing with Undertakers. You need to come up with Fireball, Vaporize, and Polymorph in order to take out the riders.

The only issue that you will face with this deck is that your health will deplete way too faster and so, you need to have Mirror Image for an early defense.

The Four Horsemen

Hero Power: Unholy Shadow

Basic Strategy
You might be taken aback to see that the Four Horsemen only start with +7 HP. However, do note that the Baron Rivendare starts with three 1/7 minions which tend to protect the boss until you silence them or take them out.

Another really frustrating thing about this boss is his Redemption which enables it to summon a dead minion with +1 HP and Avenge which grants one of his minions +3/+2 after you kill one. Unholy Shadow allows him to draw 2 cards for an insane +5 mana cost which is pretty disadvantageous for the boss.

You need to take care of the three 1/7 minions as early as you can which can be done by silencing them and focus all your attention to the boss’s +7 HP.

Recommended Decks for Normal the Four Horsemen

Deck #1
With this deck, your starting hand should be Shadow Word: Pain, Unstable Ghoul, and Acidic Swamp Ooze.

The Unstable Ghoul in your deck will allow you to take care of the Redemption. Go with Circle of Healing or Auchenai Soulpriest to take one of the horsemen during the sixth turn by using Cabal Shadow Priest.

The entire deck of the Four Horsemen is designed to kill your minions, so Thoughtsteal is quite good. If you could steal his Runeblade, and do not control any Horsemen, you will be able to receive +6 damage output. Once all 3
Horsemen are dead and you have no minion on the board, the boss will Fatigue himself to death.

Deck #2
This deck is proven to work against both Normal and Heroic the Four Horsemen and your starting hand should contain Shadow Word: Pain, Silence, and Acidic Swamp Ooze.

Your basic strategy involved in using this deck is to use Silence not only to remove the Immune Effect, but also to remove Avenge. In order to do this, you need to wait so that the Avenge gets triggered.

Other than this, you can also go for a combination with Wild Pyromancer to take out random Horsemen that has been resurrected with Redemption.

Deck #3
This deck seems to work perfectly against both Normal and Heroic the Four Horsemen with your starting hand having Execute or Fiery War Axe with Heroic Strike.

When opting for this deck, you need to buff up your armour from time to time; especially after you have taken out one or two Horsemen. Furthermore, you can also go for a charge later in the game. Also, note that boosted
Whirlwind and Cleave can take care of any Horsemen.

Recommended Decks for Heroic the Four Horsemen

Deck #1
With this deck, your best starting hand would contain Stonetusk Boar, Elven Archer, Arcane Shot, Hunter’s Mark, and the Acidic Swamp Ooze.

The basic strategy involved in using this deck is to use Hunter’s Marks and Deadly Shots to take out the Horsemen. However, it is crucial that you do not take out all three until you have taken care of Runeblade. You can either wait for its durability to drop down or Ooze it.

With this deck, the Baron will only use weapons and spells; therefore, minion removal can only be used on the three horsemen.

Deck #2
When using this deck, your ideal starting hand should comprise of Acidic Swamp Ooze along with Shadow Word: Pain to take care of the Redemption.

The basic strategy involved in using this deck is to use Acidic Swamp Ooze to take out the Runeblade. It is highly recommended that you do not use it for any other purpose. There are pretty good chances that the Baron will use
Runeblade during the second turn, so early Acidic Swamp Ooze draw is very crucial.

However, if you do not get the AWO, you will have to distract the boss so that he has something to kill with minions or the blade.

Deck #3
This is a well proven deck to take out the Four Horsemen nice and easy. For your starting hand, you need to have at least one of the combinations provided below:

  • Vaporize
  • Polymorph + Ping
  • Crazed Alchemist + Big Game Hunter
  • Crazed Alchemist + Frostbolt
  • Stampeding Kodo

You need to save your Frostbolts and Fireballs to kill the Rivendare and try not using them on any other thing. If he still carries a weapon after dying, go with Acidic Swamp Ooze or Harrison Jones to remove it.

Alternatively, you can also go with Frostbolts and Water Elementals. As for the counter spells, they are meant to take care of the Avenge secret.
