Microsoft Confirms Gamescom Lineup, Backwards Compatibility Possibly Teased

By   /   Aug 10, 2014

The weekend saw Microsoft tease the lineup of games which the company will be bringing to Gamescom 2014 next week.

Posting through its official Twitter account, Microsoft posted an image teasing a collage of artwork. Together they spelt “Xbox@Gamescom 14”, while the caption asked the community to guess what the titles are.

The image wasn’t hard to decipher and here is what you can expect from Microsoft at Gamescom 2014:

  • Xbox One logo
  • Scalebound
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  • The original Xbox logo
  • ID@Xbox logo
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • Fable Legends
  • The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (The “III” is an upside down “W”)
  • Evolved
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
  • Ori and the Blind Forest
  • Quantum Break
  • FIFA 15
  • Far Cry 4

One artwork in the image raises our eyebrows. The inclusion of the original Xbox logo may perhaps be a teaser for backwards compatibility. The ability to be able to play titles from the last-gen on the new-age Xbox One is one that has been requested by the community ever since the console was announced last year.

On paper it’s argued that the job of porting over Xbox games to the Xbox One should be relatively easy, compared to bringing Xbox 360 titles over to the new console. Hence, it could be that we see Microsoft announce a bunch of games from the classic era that will be making way on the Xbox Marketplace soon.

Gamescom 2014 is taking place in Cologne, Germany from Monday, August 11 through Friday, August 15. Things will kick off that Monday at 1 pm EST (18:00 BST / 19:00 CEST) with the world premiere of the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer.
