Star Citizen Creator’s Wing Commander 3 Free On Origin
There’s a new free game EA is handing out on Origin through its On The House program. This might be a little tougher to swallow for the newer generations, but go pick up Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger anyway.
Again, it’s free right now and it costs money otherwise, so that’s a good reason already. Plus, the game that’s now two decades old is just part of a great franchise of space opera shooters.
Players embark on a journey to blast every enemy ship out of this universe that they can. It might take a bit to get used to pixel graphics in the 360 degrees of freedom conquest, but it’s still just as satisfying.
Yet more interesting, there’s a lot of linked info concerning Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger. For one, it’s one of the few titles of old to feature a high-class range of actors.
None other than Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker, plays the protagonist, while other roles are given to Clockwork Orange’s Malcom McDowell or Lord of The Rings’ John Rhys-Davies. It even featured Ginger Lynn Allen, a porn actress, which was a quite hammy way back in the day to connect to a certain audience.
Moreover, Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger was produced by Origin Systems. Does that name sound familiar? Yes, it’s what EA’s online platform is named after, since it bought the studio, before shutting it down like all those others.
Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger is also the brainchild of Chris Roberts, now responsible for Star Citizen, which is currently well over $40 million in funds. In many ways, this series was inspiration for the new stuff.
Developer Origin Systems also housed names like Richard Garriott of the Ultima series. There is just so much history in this one place no one really remembers in this day and age.
Prior to Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger, Origin had freebies for games like Plants vs Zombies and Battlefield 3.
