Neverwinter Will Arrive First for Xbox One in 2015
Cryptic Studios announced today that its free-to-play MMO Neverwinter will release in 2015 as a console-exclusive for the Xbox One.
The word exclusive is flimsy here. According to the developer’s statement, Neverwinter looks to be releasing just for the Xbox One. However, Perfect World Entertainment, the publisher, said that the game would be “available first, free-to-play with Gold on Xbox One.” That statement translates into the game arriving on the Xbox One first and then possibly later for the PlayStation 4. If true, then it’s simply a timed-exclusive deal for Microsoft’s new console.
“Consoles are a perfect fit for action-oriented MMORPGs like Neverwinter, and we are thrilled to be one of the first publishers to bring premium free-to-play titles to leading next-gen platforms,” said Perfect World Entertainment CEO Alan Chen.
The game’s next expansion pack, Tyranny of Dragons, was also announced today with a new trailer. It’s scheduled for launch on August 14.
Neverwinter is an action MMO set in the Forgotten Realms that features fast-paced combat and epic dungeons. Players explore the vast city of Neverwinter and its surrounding countryside, learning the vivid history of the iconic city and battling its many enemies.
It is set to launch for the PC, Xbox One, and probably the PlayStation 4 sometime in 2015. The game being free-to-play means that console owners won’t have to take out extra for a monthly subscription.
All versions of the game have been confirmed to feature the same content.
