Only The PS4 Can Handle The Order: 1886, Says Developer
Ready at Dawn has stated that the PlayStation 4 is the only console that could meet the graphical requirements of its upcoming third-person shooter The Order: 1886.
Speaking at a recent Sony event in New York, Community Manager J Goldberg said that as evident from the previews, The Order: 1886 demanded impressive next-generation hardware to fully realize the studio’s vision. The PlayStation 4 is the only one that met the requirement.
“We couldn’t have achieved this graphical fidelity with any other console,” Goldberg said.
He also revealed that the idea for the game arrived while they were still making makes for the PSP. However, it was practically impossible to developer such a game with the aged old hardware.
All characters in the game have gone through performance and motion capture sequences. The same character models are used in both the gameplay sequences and cut-scenes, making the transition from a cinematic to actual game seamless.
“We’re moving the camera in space, we’re not loading in a video,” he said.
The Order: 1886 was announced at E3 2013 and takes place in Victorian London, where the lower classes are becoming hostile due to their miserable living conditions. An order of knights descended from King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table are tasked with keeping the peace. They’ll have more than just the citizens to deal with because an old familiar threat has returned. Half-breeds, part human and part animal, they have been at war with the Knights for centuries.
“There hasn’t really been a game set in this period,” Goldberg said. “There were a lot of incredibly cool things that happened, with the government, with inventions, and so on–folks love that stuff. We knew we could have a lot of fun with it if we took that rich history and put our own spin on it.”
The Order: 1886 launches exclusively on PS4 on February 20, 2015.
