Destiny on PS3 is Quite Close to PS4 With Resolution Being the Major Difference
While the games like Bungie’s Destiny and Ubisoft’s Watch_Dogs (which are available on both current-gen and last-gen of consoles) are meant to be played on current-gen hardware to get the most out of the experience, Bungie has done a remarkable job with the Playstation 3 version of its upcoming Massively Multiplayer Online Shooter Destiny – speaking of the ongoing beta test, of course!
In a series of comparison experiments conducted by Digital Foundry, it turns out that although the Playstation 3 version doesn’t run at par with the Playstation 4 one, it is in no way a dreadful experience.
The site reports that while the levels are completely identical in terms of shape and size, level details are somewhat inferior on the Playstation 3 version. For example, rocks and flora look quite soft and less dense. However, the biggest difference-maker is the game’s resolution.
While the PS4 runs the game at native Full HD 1080p, its PS3 variant only manages 1024×624 which is not even 720p.
Another major contributor to the overall difference is the Shadow Details as evident by Guymelef’s Thread on NEOGAF. Have a look at the screenshot below and share your opinions!
All graphical inferiorities considered, it will not change the way the game plays out and players will not notice any differences in number of enemies appearing on-screen. Another major fact that shouldn’t go unnoticed is that we’re comparing eight years old hardware with a recent one.

Destiny is slated to release across Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4 in Sept. 2014.
