The Witcher 3 Swamps Recreated Using CryEngine 3, Comparison Against REDengine
A member of CryDev ‘QPFFHTMXJ’ has recreated a portion of the world of CD Projekt Red’s upcoming RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt using CryEngine 3; demonstrating the visual differences between CryEngine 3 and REDengine.
Now, before you compare the two screenshots, know that the competition is unfair on many grounds.
First, pitting a fan-made portion of a game against something developed by a team of veteran developers is not justified. Secondly, the screenshot used for the REDengine is quite old and it is unfair to compare it before it is out. And lastly, the image created in REDengine had to be compressed and optimized in order to attain certain Frames per Second, but the image recreated using CryEngine 3; it probably didn’t have to encounter any compression.
Another thing that we shouldn’t rule out is that REDengine is designed for open-world games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, whereas CryEngine 3 requires certain modifications in order to work with open-world games.
Have a look at the screenshots below and share your thoughts!
Many people may find the image created on the CryEngine a tad better than the REDengine in terms of lightning and overall level of realism and detail, though a little additional fog could have made it much better!
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is expected to release across Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Windows PC on Feb. 24, 2015.
