Oculus Rift Apparently Getting its Own Motion Controllers

Oculus Rift is indeed an achievement that could change how we look at technology in our industry but it looks like Facebook wants more from it. There are rumors in the air that Oculus might be working on their own sets of motion controllers.

According to this report, some insiders who are familiar with the development have claimed that the company has been at work on the complimenting devices for some time.

While the sources have not given any details, it is the implications of this step that make me think. We know at least half a dozen companies that are known to be working on motion controllers to go with Oculus Rift. If the company wants their own devices to go with the VR headset, they might b upsetting a lot of people.

In other news, the first batch of Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 was supposed to be shipped couple of days ago but the company announced that there had been a delay owing to certain polishing that still needs to be done.

It is a little worrying that Rift, being in development for so long and even after the acquisition by Facebook, is still struggling to meet deadlines. That being said, the DK2 shipment is bound to be out in a couple of days which would tell us how far has Oculus come from the DK1 version of the head mounted virtual reality set.

The company has not shared any official release dates for the Oculus Rift VR set but it is expected that it will go out on sale sometime next year. Wonder how it will change thee competitive market if they launch it complete with their own motion controllers.
