Destiny Guardians will be Transferable Between Both Generations of the Same System
Destiny’s players will be able to transfer their created characters from one generation of console to another, Bungie has confirmed via its official website.
In Bungie Weekly Update by Bnet Tru7h, the developer talks about the on-going beta, the newly released Destiny Companion app. for iOS and Android, and a Question/Answer session with the fans.
Claude Errera asked devs whether she will be able to transfer her characters created on the Playstation 4 to Playstation 3 with the same account.
In response, Bungie confirmed that this is how Destiny will work; allowing players to move their characters from one generation of a console to another, provided that they stay in the same system. It means that players will be able to transfer their characters from Playstation 3 to Playstation 4 and vice versa, but not from Xbox to Playstation.
Your question points to a very interesting truth about how Destiny will work. As you’ve discovered, as your Guardian evolves it will be able to travel from one generation of console to the next. Just like hopping worlds, you can use the same Guardian on Next Gen and Legacy Gen consoles – so long as you stay in the same system. Ergo, you can move from PlayStation to PlayStation and from Xbox to Xbox, but not across product lines.
The devs further explain how this will work; a Bungie account is tied to a PSN or Xbox Live account which can be used on both generations. So as long as you use the same PSN or Xbox Live account on both generations, there shouldn’t be any issues.
According to David Shaw, our self-professed Chief Pyrotechnical Officer, this was the plan all along, as we set out to build an adventure that would span generations. ‘Our service is built with flexibility in mind. As a player of Destiny, you have a Bungie account that’s bound to your PSN ID or your Xbox LIVE Gamertag, instead of a specific generation of device.’
