The Long Dark Gets New Trailer, Planned Early Access

Independent developer Hinterland Games has released a new trailer for their project, The Long Dark, which has some in-game visuals. It’s not exactly gameplay, which is a little of a disappointment, but it does display the cold world of the PC title.

There is a certain, distinct style in The Long Dark that blends a harsh first person survival game in a lighter, more pastel-like color theme. Along with that, its lighting system has colorful warmth to it, but don’t let that fool you.

Surviving elements in the game will try to be as realistic as possible. There are separate modifiers for staying warm by fires, hunger and so on.

Along with the clip, The Long Dark is said to go on Steam through Early Access to open up its development build this September. Those who pledged towards the game’s successful Kickstarter campaign and opted for a Beta tier will receive a key.

Preorders are up on the developer’s site right now. It comes in three tiers; $19.99 or $24.99 and $29.99 with added content, where the latter two come with an extra key. That’s not a bad upsell.

In the Early Access version of The Long Dark, players will be able to go into the Sandbox mode, which freely serves up its survival elements. There’s a giant, snowy map and you just try not to get eaten by wolves.

Hinterland Games is saving the Story mode for the game’s full release, to prevent it from trickling in and spoiling the experience.
