The International: Gamefy Leaks Team DK’s Tactics and Then Apologizes
Gamefy has apologized for its camera crew to have entered the players’ rooms without their consent and afterwards uploading filmed footage that gave away Team DK’s drafting strategy for their upcoming matches in The International.
Prior to their matches, teams are allocated private rooms where they can discuss strategies and tactics for their upcoming matches. This area is off limits to everyone else, including the coaches. Despite the set rules, Gamefy’s camera crew went behind the red line to record Team DK’s allotted room.
The video contained the team’s drafting strategy and while the team’s coach pulled the video back from the original Chinese streaming site Youku, the translated version of the video went global.
Team DK was still able to win their match in the end but their drafting strategy is now public knowledge, making their upcoming matches a bit difficult to anticipate.
Dota 2 fans are requesting Valve to take immediate action against Gamefy, but the company has yet to respond. Gamefy in the meanwhile has issued a public apology on their Weibo account, that was translated into English by Reddit user Bikini.
“Dear DK players and beloved dota 2 fans,
“Gamefy’s film personnel entered and began filming the player’s rooms without the permission of Valve and Team DK, and accidentally uploading the sensitive information. We sincerely apologize for our actions.
“We acknowledge the problems and frustration that were caused to team DK by the video, and we are fully aware of the hurt that was caused to dota 2 fans. According to Valve Corporation’s rules and regulations, the personnel responsible cannot continue to participate in TI4 news reporting; We will also strictly adhere to the rules of the organizing committee. Without further permission from valve, we will not enter player’s rooms to conduct any kind film work.
“Lastly, we would hope for forgiveness and understanding from all of team DK, all dota 2 fans and lovers, and other TI 4 players; and let us put our passion and enthusiasm into the reporting of the next phase of the tournament.
“We hereby apologize.”
If Valve intervenes, Gamefy could lose the chance to continue report The International. As for Team DK, we’ll know soon enough how badly this will effect them in their upcoming matches.
