Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Gets a New Story Trailer
Warner Bros. Monolith has released a new trailer that details the story of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor.
The upcoming action role-playing game is set in The Lord of the Rings universe and the new video tells us just how hard the developers have worked to ensure Tolkien’s vision. The task at hand was to branch out the universe into new ideas and storylines; while at the same time sticking close to the Middle-Earth’s lore itself.
In the game players follow Talion, a ranger of Gondor who is responsible for guarding the Black Gate of Mordor. However, once Sauron’s armies start moving across the lands like a plague, Talion and his family are killed. He however is revived ‘mysteriously’ with wraith-like abilities. Given another go at life, Talion heads back into Mordor to exact his revenge on those who killed his family.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor incorporates a special ‘nemesis’ system where enemies you encounter or interact with on your journey will remember your face and your decisions later in the game. This ultimately means that your every action has consequences, something featured in almost every RPG nowadays. However, the difference here is that the enemy can take action regarding your choices. For example an Orc that you’ve made an enemy might end up ambushing you later in the game, or invite you for a meeting or the likes.
Warner Bros. has confirmed that players will encounter Gollum in the game as well, and that the story does involve around the Rings of Power. Whether we’ll get to see Sauron on our screens remains to be answered. I wouldn’t mind actually paying for a DLC featuring the dark lord and one where I have to infiltrate his fortress of power.
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is slated to launch on Oct. 7 across all home consoles (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3) and PC.
