Sony Might Have Something Like Early Access Program For PS4

By   /   Jul 11, 2014

Early Access programs really are trending these days, as it allows fans to try out the games for themselves before spending a whole lot of money, and now, it looks like that Sony want to join in on this with its own similar kind of feature for PS4.

In response to question asked about early access programs like Steam, SCE America’s Adam Boyes said:

That’s one of the massive conversations we have internally — that, at what point does a game meet standards of release]? We still at some point ensure that we’re being mindful of the consumer. We don’t want somebody to stumble across that title and expect a full product, and have a negative experience.

He continued on to say that uncompleted games are not a good thing, and that is why, most developers opt for Early Access Programs, as it allows them to bring their title to players, who after playing can give direct feedback, which will help improve the game.

Boyes mentioned that Sony is currently figuring out how to deal with this kind of platform on PS4, but there are no details on it, as of now.

Sony is also looking to improve their relationship with Indie Developers by making their life easier, says Boyes:

We’re always looking at different ways to make life easier. There’s no stone unturned for what we can do. We’re having conversations. We have a global strike team, plus an SCEA strike team, who are in charge of trying to figure out how to look at what’s happening with early alpha access, or paid betas — which we’ve allowed before
with Dust 514.

An early access program on a console would be a great deal, especially after seeing the amount of Indie Games that are headed to PS4, as it will work in benefit of both the gamers and developers.
