Valve Could Be Headed to Gamescom To Show New Steam Controller

A listing on the official Gamescom website suggests that Valve will be attending the conference this year to possibly showcase their new Steam Controller.

According to the listing, Valve Corporation will exhibit in Hall 4.1, Stand A031. The page’s profile further mentions that the booth will include “controllers,” a possible reference to the Steam Controller which was unveiled during GDC in March.

It’s been awhile since GDC and Valve has probably spent this time in working on their controller based on user feedback. The Steam Controller shuns away the conventional analog sticks for sleeker looking click-able trackpads. From the post-GDC previews, many stated that while the pads look uncomfortable to work with, they are incredibly accurate. However it takes a bit of getting used to before you can actually enjoy the controller.

Additionally the controller features a touchscreen interface in the center, which will also behave as a button. The function of the screen is to add dynamism and give players additional options without actually having additional buttons.

Buttons have also been placed in a way to optimize usage. Each button is placed according to how often it will likely be used. There are a total of sixteen buttons on the controller, of which half are accessible without even the need to lift your thumb.

Valve has been requested to confirm whether they are indeed heading to Gamescom next month or not. An official statement is still pending.

Gamescom 2014 will take place from August 13 to 17 in Cologne, Germany.
