Pokemon X and Y: Fancy Pattern Vivillon Available for Free Until July 31

By   /   Jul 8, 2014

Earlier in May, the Pokemon Company announced that it would distribute a “fancy pattern” Vivillon Pokemon to mark the moment when they manage to achieve 100 million Pokemon trades using the Global Trade Station (GTS) in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.

That milestone has now been achieved.

Vivillon is a flying type Pokemon bug that has a unique wing pattern, determined by the player’s real world location. In total there are around 20 different wing patterns recorded. The new Vivillon though will be different. According to the Pokemon Company, the specially distributed Pokemon is going to be the same no matter where you are in the world. Additionally reading through a forum I came to know that the new version will also feature a move called Hold Hands that no other Pokemon, not even other Vivillons, can learn.

In order to check yours out all you have to do is start Pokemon X and Y to obtain the Fancy Pattern Vivillon over the Nintendo Network any time before July 31. Remember that the offer is for a limited time. It’s highly unlikely that Nintendo will give away this special Pokemon in the future.

In related news, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are coming to 3DS on November 21.
